Becoming a Bethany Student

We offer two graduate degree programs: a master of divinity (MDiv) and a master of arts (MA) which has three different options. Five certificate programs are also available for those who want to supplement their education or training.

Yes! Students in our graduate programs can participate in our Connections distance learning program. With this option, graduate students can almost all of the required coursework for the Master of Divinity or the Master of Arts entirely online or through synchronous video formats. The remaining courses are completed at Bethany’s main campus in Richmond, Indiana in accelerated formats, meaning you do not need to relocate to earn your degree. Certificates can be earned entirely online or through synchronous video formats.

Bethany Theological Seminary is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada. Both the Seminary’s MDiv and MA degree programs are approved, and Bethany has also received approval for comprehensive distance education. In addition, Bethany is fully accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

The master of arts (MA) program has three options. One is made up of 42 credits while the other two require 36 credits. The MA program is a good fit for students who are pursuing further doctoral education, employment with a variety of nonprofit organizations, or who are seeking professional or theological enrichment. This program prepares students for theological reflection and research.

The master of divinity (MDiv) program is made up of 72 credit hours. It is designed to prepare students for church-related ministries requiring ordination. At the heart of the MDiv program is Ministry Formation, a process of learning ministry by doing and reflecting upon ministry.
