The Bethany Seminary Board of Trustees held its spring meeting on the Bethany campus March 21-23, 2013. In addition to hearing reports on department activities and new initiatives, the trustees addressed a number of action items. A highlight of the weekend was a retirement dinner for Ruthann Knechel Johansen, whose presidency of Bethany concludes on June 30, 2013.

Bethany Theological Seminary will hold its 108th commencement in Nicarry Chapel on the Bethany campus at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11. Eleven master of divinity degrees will be conferred along with one master of arts degree and one Certificate of Achievement in Theological Studies.

Dr. Denise Kettering-Lane has been hired as full-time assistant professor of Brethren studies at Bethany Seminary, to begin July 1, 2013. Kettering-Lane has taught Brethren studies at Bethany in a part-time capacity since 2010, with the majority of her courses in online and weekend-intensive formats.

Mary Elizabeth WieandBethany Theological Seminary announces that two new educational initiatives will be supported by a major gift from the estate of Mary Elizabeth Wertz Wieand. This gift comes through the David J. and Mary Elizabeth Wieand Trust, established by members of a family whose roots go back to the very founding of the Seminary.  

The Bethany Theological Seminary Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Carter of Manassas, Virginia, has accepted the call to serve as the Seminary’s tenth president, beginning July 1, 2013.

As we wait again for God's reconciling love and Christ's peace to come in our midst, we join our hearts and prayers with all who grieve the terrible violence and loss of lives at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut Dec. 14.

The Bethany Seminary Board of Trustees met October 26-28 on the Seminary’s Richmond, Indiana, campusfor their biannual meeting. Board chair Lynn Myers, whose term began July 1, 2012, presided. Four new trustees were seated: Paul Brubaker, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, representing clergy; Christina Bucher, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, at large; Celia Cook-Huffman, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, representing the Brethren colleges; and David W.

DylanMy journey to Bethany Theological Seminary began in the summer of 2004 with eight other high school students. We attended a conference entitled "Exploring Your Call." It was during that conference that I first seriously considered ministry as a vocation. During that experience I learned that ministry doesn't necessarily mean Sunday morning behind a pulpit. I also felt a deep connection to the denomination through the friends I made--both peers and leaders.
