Certificate of Achievement in Theological Studies

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Bethany Students on couchThe Certificate of Achievement in Theological Studies (CATS) program offers the opportunity to test the waters of seminary education.

CATS involves a minimum of six 3-hour courses with at least one in each of the 4 primary disciplines including:

  • Biblical Studies
  • Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Ministry Studies
  • Theological and Historical Studies

During the course of study or upon program completion, CATS students may petition for admittance into a degree program. Credits earned as a CATS student are transferable upon admission to a degree program.

Bethany offers the CATS program in two locations: at the Richmond Campus in Indiana and at the Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Students may choose either location, but it is expected that they will complete the majority of their class work at their chosen site. CATS students at either location will receive their certificate from Bethany Theological Seminary.

Monica Rice
Master of Arts

MonicaIt is no small task to choose a topic that will hold enough interest to devote countless hours and hundreds of pages of reading and writing. I have found that topic in researching the tradition of the prayer covering in the Church of the Brethren. This practice piqued my curiosity because of the lack of available writing and discussion about it. For instance, the last time that Annual Meeting/Conference addressed the covering was 1925!
