Significant road construction is taking place on many major thoroughfares in Richmond, Indiana, including National Road West. If you plan to visit Bethany, please note the following recommendations for traveling through Richmond:

Approaching Bethany from the West

Proceed on U.S. 40 and turn right at the Earlham College main entrance. Follow the red signs to the seminaries parking lot.

Approaching Bethany from the East

Follow U.S. 40 through the city of Richmond. After passing the court house, Route 40 turns right and crosses the Lamar Lundy Memorial Bridge. Turn left at the light at the end of the bridge onto Hub Etchison Parkway. Immediately turn right at the light onto SW 1st Street. Follow SW 1st Street until it dead ends on SW D Street. Turn right onto SW D Street and follow it onto the Earlham College campus. Follow the red signs to the seminaries parking lot.

Approaching Bethany from the Northwest

Visitors traveling on I-70 should use the Williamsburg Pike Exit 49A, following signs toward Richmond. Williamsburg Pike becomes NW 5th Street. Follow NW 5th Street until you reach the light at U.S. 40. Stay in the right lane to go straight into and through the parking lot of Marsh Supermarket. At the back of the parking lot, NW 5th jogs right onto SW C Street for half a block then turns left. Follow SW 5th Street to the next intersection and turn right onto SW D Street. Follow SW D Street onto the Earlham College campus. Follow the red signs to the seminaries parking lot.

Approaching Bethany fom the Northeast

We suggest that visitors avoid traveling into Richmond from the north on U.S. 27 because it is also under construction. Take I-70 west one exit to Williamsburg Pike Exit #49A and follow the instructions for approaching Bethany from the Northwest.

Approaching Bethany from the South

Follow U.S. 27 until it intersects with North A Street (U.S. 40 West). Turn left onto North A Street and follow the directions for approaching from the East.

Departing from Bethany heading West

Leave the seminaries parking lot and proceed to D Street. Cross College Avenue and go one more block to SW 5th Street. Turn left onto SW 5th Street and follow it until reaching SW C Street; turn right. Follow SW C for only half a block; turn left into the Marsh Supermarket parking lot and proceed to the traffic light at U.S. 40. Follow SW 5th Street one block to the traffic light at Main Street and turn left. Follow Main Street to SW 18th Street and turn left. SW 18th Street intersects with U.S. 40 at a traffic light; turn right onto U.S 40, heading west.

The Seminary will observe a sabbatical day on Wednesday, November 25. All employees will participate in the sabbatical day and the offices will be closed. Approved by the board of trustees, the seminary occasionally observes sabbatical days for rest, prayer or meditation, examination of conscience, and reflection on personal and institutional values and priorities. Bethany also will be closed Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
