New Director of Brethren Academy Named

Julie Mader Hostetter has been named Director of the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership, a ministry training partnership of Bethany Theological Seminary and the Church of the Brethren General Board, beginning July 1, 2008. The Brethren Academy Offices are located at the Seminary in Richmond, Indiana.

The Reverend Hostetter is currently Director of Academic and Student Services at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. She has served previously in several professional and volunteer positions for the Church of the Brethren at the congregational, district and denominational levels. She was Coordinator of Congregational Life Team Area 3 for the Church of the Brethren General Board with specific focus on small membership and urban/ethnic congregations, and was a member of the Pastoral Ethics Committee and the Church Extension Committee in the Virlina District. She has served as Co-pastor of the Mack Memorial Church of the Brethren, Dayton, Ohio and as Minister of Music at the West Richmond, Virginia Church of the Brethren. She also was Interim Executive Director of Metropolitan Churches United in Dayton, Ohio.

Rev. Hostetter is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa. and United Theological Seminary. She currently is enrolled in a Doctor of Ministry program through the Center for Ministry and Leadership Development at Union-PSCE, Richmond, Va. She has edited and written numerous Christian education resources and was principal writer for the article on “Children and Worship” in the resource For All Who Minister.

Mary Jo Flory Steury, Executive Director of Ministry for the Church of the Brethren General Board, and Bethany Seminary President Ruthann Knechel Johansen expressed appreciation for Rev. Hostetter’s response to this call. “Julie brings a deep faith in Christ, a commitment to the core values and testimonies of the Church of the Brethren, a wealth of experience in ministry and leadership, excellent skills in administration, and deep passion for learning as a way of life,” they said. “We are extremely pleased that she has responded to the call to serve in this important role giving oversight to our certificate level ministry training programs.”
