Institute for Ministry With Youth and Young Adults

Church Planting Conference 2006Inaugurated in 2000, the Institute for Ministry With Youth and Young Adults promotes research and training for leadership. By connecting with both contemporary academic scholarship and the life of local congregations, the Institute seeks to contribute to more effective youth and young adult ministries.

The faculty Director of the Institute works with an advisory committee that includes people who are active in ministry with youth and young adults. Specific connections with the Church of the Brethren are fostered through the Institute's cooperation with the Youth and Young Adult Office of the Church of the Brethren General Board.

Students in the M.Div. program who wish to pursue for their degree a special emphasis in ministry with youth and young adults are required to do a "practicum" to help them prepare for ministry; while students in the M.A. program wishing to pursue a special emphasis are required to write a thesis. Both groups are required to complete a basic course in Christian education, plus at least three additional courses related to ministry with youth and young adults; these latter courses are chosen by the student in consultation with Institute faculty.

Students enrolled in Academy programs have opportunity to take courses offered through the Institute. In addition, the Institute offers seminars and workshops in continuing education for pastors and lay leaders.
